Brian & Diana Holt - nb Harnser

Hi, I'm Brian Holt and my wife is Diana, we are both in our fifties and have both taken early retirement.

We had our first narrowboat holiday in 1987 when we hired a boat and went down the Severn to Worcester. It rained for 6 days out of the 7 but we were hooked. We carried on hiring for five years until we bought into a shared ownership with Share-a-Boat.

As time went on and the number of owners decreased to four we decide that we would like a boat of our own. The decision was made final when we bought a second hand Beta BD3 engine, we then looked for someone to build our hull.

In the end an order was placed with Marque Narrowboats of Stafford and in September 1998 Harnser was delivered to Suffolk. Three and a half years and many hours of work later she found her way to Calcutt Marina where she entered the water for the first time.
